Over the past two weeks, I have focused on creating content on the forum Quora, my first major ‘free’ traffic source for my blog and opt-in page. Almost daily, I have created a post or answered a question about marketing, affiliate marketing, making money online, or building an online business.
During this time, I created a new offer for my opt-in page to grow my email newsletter list by giving away five free training videos from my mentor Dean Holland, and access to my newsletter where I reveal the biggest secrets I have learned about making money online. I also added more emails to the new subscriber email sequence.
However, yesterday I checked the page view stats for my opt-in page and blog page and saw that no one has visited either page for over two weeks!
Not one single person.
Here I am spending hours updating the opt-in page, making the offer better, typing out the description of what people will get, explaining my newsletter, typing out new emails for the email sequence, and writing new blog posts. But no one has seen any of this yet because I cannot get people to take the first step in the journey: click on a link in my Quora profile page and posts to check out my blog or opt-in page.
I reflected on this yesterday and today and went back to my marketing training to see what I was doing wrong. Two things popped into my head; either I have not created enough content on Quora yet to drive traffic to my blog and opt-in page, or I am not optimizing the hook, story, and offer on my Quora posts and profile page that is the marketing framework to get people excited enough to want to check out my webpages.
The hook is essentially a short phrase or sentence to get people’s attention. The story is for the body of the content to help people connect with and understand a real-life example of how a result was achieved because of a product. Last, the offer, whether a product offer or an offer to get new subscribers to my email list, has to be exciting and valuable from a price perspective.
I then reviewed my content on Quora and my profile page and realized that I did not have good hooks or good stories. I believe my offer is good, but perhaps I am not grabbing enough people’s attention by not having a good hook. And then I am not keeping their attention with a story to help transition interest to the offer.
The other side of the coin is that I have not produced enough content on Quora. This past month, I had about 750 content views across all of my content, which feels pretty solid. I should get at least 1 person to check out my blog or opt-in page within two weeks, right?
My main goal is to optimize everything I can control and ensure I am good at the basic blocking and tackling of marketing. So, today I went back to my Quora profile to add a new ‘hook’ on my profile page and expanded greatly on my story about how I became interested in starting a new online-based business.
Going forward, when I post new content on Quora this week, I will add a short hook at the beginning to grab more attention and include a short story to illustrate the point I am making in the post.
I will check the page view stats in a week and see if anything has improved.
I will post the results next week!
