Rough Week in My Online Business

Ugh, it has been a tough week in my online business. I have been bogged down in work projects in my full-time business.

If you missed previous posts where I mentioned my other business, I have a full-time and part-time business. This website is my part-time online business (otherwise referred to as my side hustle or gig).

I try to work 1-3 hours daily on this business, but some weeks are challenging to get the time in.

This morning, I woke up at 5 a.m. and could not fall back asleep. I knew I was behind in my online business, having only worked about 2 hours in four work days. To make it worse, I have a terrible sore throat that I probably got from my daughter, who had a virus last week.

After laying in bed for 10-15 minutes, I got up, made some tea, and started working! By 8:30, I had almost caught up with the tasks I wanted to complete for the week.

Sometimes, it is hard to be consistent with a part-time gig, such as building an online business. No boss is telling me when to work or how hard to work. I have to rely on my own discipline and strength to do the tasks I feel are needed to keep it moving forward.

Many years ago, Rory McIlroy, a top professional golfer, was not playing well in a big tournament. After his round, he had to talk to the press. Someone asked him how he felt his day went. He replied that he had a character-building day. I don’t remember the rest, but I remember that part. It makes sense. The times when we are not as productive as we want, feeling upset and frustrated, become the times when we build our character. We work on our discipline, strength, and tenacity. Rory had to grind through the day, which wasn’t his best result, but he was training himself to be tough and get it done. The positive result came from how he responded to not playing well that day. I often think about this when I’m having a bad day or week.

Today was a day where I had to have some tenacity and grit. I did not want to wake up early, but I also did not want my mind to be consumed with the negativity of feeling frustrated and annoyed at not getting the work done. It can wear me down worse than getting a little less sleep.

My tenacity and grit come from my desire to achieve a particular result from my business. My main goal is to build a constant stream of income (my first income goal is $3,000 a month) and incorporate passive income strategies to maintain that consistency and grow it further over time. I want it badly, and I am willing to make some sacrifices here and there to keep the dream alive.

For those reading this, perhaps you have had similar experiences to what I went through this morning!
