On Monday, I created new opt-in pages for a new free product offer for people who join my email newsletter. While I enjoy doing this, it takes time to make all the website changes and post them in their proper place. Because of this, I feel that these changes need to be strategic. I do not want to waste time since I am building my online business with a limit of 1-3 hours daily. However, I want to do the best job possible.
If you are new to building an online business or even affiliate marketing, I want to put these changes into perspective so you understand how long it takes me to do them. It is good to know the time commitment upfront.
It took me about 1 hour to create the new opt-in page. I had to write the content, design the page, proofread, and adjust some paragraphs to look ok on both a desktop and a laptop. I then made two copies of it to have three opt-in pages. All three are the same, except the URL slugs are different (I’ll explain).
Once I create the opt-in page in the webpage builder (I use Affiliate Systems), I go to WordPress, which hosts my blog, and use a plugin called Lead Connector. This plugin connects the URL from the webpage builder to my domain, www.businessbuildingonline.com. I then create a custom slug for each opt-in page. The slug is the URL ending after the domain name.
For example, I can make an opt-in page with the custom URL www.businessbuildingonline.com/optinpage. The main domain is www.businessbuildingonline.com, and the slug is the /opt-in page. I can make as many slugs as I want.
I have custom slugs for each opt-in page for tracking purposes. I can track the number of clicks and opt-ins for each opt-in page. I then put the custom URLs in different places, such as my blog, Quora profile, and Quora posts. This way, as I get clicks on each opt-in page, I know where the clicks are coming from. This can help me understand where people see the URLs and click on them.
Setting up 3 URLs vs. 1 URL is a little more work, but I am big into tracking. I am always curious about where people are clicking, and I feel it helps me in the future as I make adjustments. Setting up the custom URLs takes about 30-45 minutes.
So, I spent an hour and 30-45 minutes on these items.
But wait, there is one more thing I need to do! I’ll share this in tomorrow’s blog post! Don’t miss it!
