This is a follow-up to yesterday’s post about my concerns about my link click tracking. The results are in!
When I used a different link for one of the affiliate product offers in a social media post yesterday, it got no clicks in a one-day timeframe. This is in contrast to when I use the direct affiliate product link, I get many clicks (usually about 6-8 in one day).
This is pretty strange! It means that I get better results just by using a particular URL, which, on the surface, does not make any sense. If the product description for the offer I write about on a post is the same on two posts, then I should get about the same number of clicks no matter what the actual URL is on either post.
My next thought was maybe the links have different loading times. Perhaps one URL loads slowly, and people exit the page before it fully loads, therefore not registering as a click.
I tested this, and the links load basically at the same time. There is no difference there.
This leaves me baffled. So, I’m going to try one more test.
I have a subscription to MailChimp, an email system that offers email marketing and landing page capabilities.
I created a landing page on MailChimp and inserted the affiliate product URL in a button on this landing page.
Now, I will try three different links for the same product offer and see the click results on all three.
This is super exciting. Let’s see what happens in a day! I’ll post some social media links now and report back tomorrow with the click results!
