The journey continues with applying the social media viral video formula to my posts on Quora.
I am returning to old posts and redoing them by making a better headline, adding a build-up phrase, delivering better content, and finishing with a call to action.
Here are some new things I have discovered:
- Some posts need more revisions than others when changing a headline.
- I’ve noticed the headline drives the content I talk about in the post. When I change the headline, it can change the spirit of the post (said differently, it changes the direction of the post), particularly with the content in the main body of the post.
- I had to rewrite the content in some posts to fit the headline better. The result, in my opinion, is a better post overall.
- While this process is helpful to post better content, it takes more time. It’s not a quick 5-10 minute thing; it can take 15-20 minutes to nail down the content.
- Since some posts take longer than others to rewrite, and since I have limited time some days to devote to this, I decided to try redoing one post per day. I originally wanted to do 10 at a time, which was too much given the limited time I have some days, and then I reduced it to 5 at a time. I’ve realized doing one at a time fits my daily time slot better. I can do more by setting a goal of 1 per day than trying to do 5-10 at a time and not having time to do. So, when doing something new, there is a time management element because it is a new skill set that time extra time to master.
- As I mentioned in a previous post last week, I saw a 197% increase in average views per post in December than in previous months. The only difference is that in December I applied the formula.
In summary, the formula works! I see it working to increase views. This is a massive step forward in generating free traffic using social media.
I still have more work to do, and I’ll share more thoughts as I progress.
Feel free to get the details of the formula in previous blog posts called Social Media Viral Video Formula (Parts 1, 2, 3, and 4).
