One of My Favorite Words in Business

Evergreen.

What is evergreen?

All the aspects, components, and elements that remain constant with little to no change over time.

From a business perspective, evergreen includes the tried and true business strategies that have worked in the past and will continue to work in the future.

Evergreen is not about the new wiz-bang thing that someone’s using to grow a business that might not work anymore in a year.

Evergreen is about basic blocking and tackling skills and tasks, the core things a company needs to grow sustainably in the long term.

I checked out Evergreen in the dictionary.

Do you know what it says?

There are two main definitions:

  1. ‘Having green leaves throughout the entire year’. This refers to growing and maintaining productivity throughout all four seasons.
  2. ‘Retaining its relevance, popularity, usefulness, etc.: enduring’. This refers to products, content, and other things in a business that do not lose its value and purpose over time.

In my online business, some examples of Evergreen include:

  • Content or information I can post on social media, my blog, or in an ad over and over without it being irrelevant
  • Automated emails that can be sent to new leads for years
  • Utilizing the ‘four core areas of focus’ for growing my business, which include traffic generation, capturing traffic, follow-ups, and making offers
  • Passive income strategies

There are two key reasons evergreen is critically important in business:

  1. Evergreen business strategies provide a guiding light for building a business. This might include strategies for getting new leads, building an audience, and making money. Whenever I get stuck or am unsure what to do, I can look at my evergreen strategies and remember which direction to go in and what action steps to take.
  2. Evergreen automated tools and techniques make daily tasks more straightforward and more effortless. To me, evergreen includes anything I can incorporate into my business that helps save me time. This includes using AI tools for content and image creation, taking advantage of automated emails, creating content I make once and post on social media multiple times (without having to rewrite it every time), and evergreen products that don’t have to be changed or constantly updated. Passive income is also included in this since the income is ‘automated’.

I find it essential to identify the evergreen components of my business and work on using them as often as possible to help me succeed!
