Have you heard of Pareto’s 80/20 rule?
It states that 80% of consequences come from 20% of causes.
When it comes to my online business, 20% of the tasks will generate 80% of the results.
With this in mind, last week I made an agreement with myself to focus the majority of my time on the 20% of the tasks needed to successfully build this new online business. Up to this point, I spent a lot of time with basic stuff; setting up the blog webpage, making some web pages with a lead magnet, and setting up an email. This hasn’t made me any money.
Then I asked myself, “Well, what are the tasks I need to do to be successful?”
To me, the traffic-generating activities are the most important tasks. Initially, I am using social media outlets like Quora and TikTok to post content. I want to gain an audience there. So, posting information and videos there is critically important.
Some of the people who see my content there will check out my blog and eventually want my exclusive newsletter and opt-in to get it, as well as the free training videos I am offering. They might eventually want to buy some products to help them build an online business.
What I do not want to do is waste time on things that will not make me money, such as spending too much time designing my blog/website to look spiffy, or getting bogged down in what color an opt-in button should be on my opt-in web page. Or, getting stuck researching tons of different WordPress themes to choose from to create the appearance of my blog webpage.
I want to keep things as simple as possible. For me, simple is more productive. Simple gives me more time to share content online that could generate traffic to my sales funnels and email list. Simple keeps my mind clear of distractions.
The most important 20% tasks are what I want to spend my time on. Everything else I need to keep as simple as possible.
So here we go. I cannot let myself or Pareto down!
