There are two main ways to make money with an online business:
- Sell your own products or services
- Sell other businesses’ products and services
Creating an online business can be difficult, so I always look for ways to simplify the process.
I learned that selling products that other people or businesses own can be simpler because there is less work to get started and fewer tasks to master.
Think about it. What tasks do you have to be good at (or hire people to do) when selling your own products and services?
Here are some of them:
- product creation and development
- manufacturing and distribution
- product offer creation
- content creation
- graphics
- members areas
- payment processing
- customer service
- customer returns and exchanges (and complaints)
- traffic generation
Some people have great product ideas or have previous experience or skillsets in a particular industry that can be parlayed into a product or service to sell.
That is great, and the world needs these people.
However, if you are not one of those people (like me), selling other companies’ products is a great way to start your own online business.
It is also the more straightforward way to get started.
Affiliate marketing is a common term for this option (selling other businesses’ products).
The beauty of affiliate marketing is there are fewer tasks to master.
The main tasks to master in affiliate marketing include:
- content creation
- traffic generation
- advertising
- making offers
- follow-ups
Furthermore, the tasks you do not have to do as an affiliate marketer are:
- product development and creation
- product manufacturing and distribution/shipping
- customer service
- payments
- customer complaints, returns, or exchanges
Affiliate marketing can be a great option if you are considering an online business.
You can tailor your business to the products or services you want to sell and turn your hobbies, passions, and interests into a business.
