Here is the primary strategy I was taught for using social media to generate income as an affiliate marketer.

This works for anyone promoting products online, whether as an affiliate or selling his or her own products.

1. Find one main social media platform on which to post content daily (or as often as possible). Focus on one, get good at it, and build an audience there.
2. At the same time you are posting on social media, start a blog and post content daily (or as often as possible).
3. Use social media posts to promote your blog posts. Some traffic that views your social media posts will check out your blog posts. This will take people away from social media and lead them towards your owned asset (your website/blog).
4. On your blog, promote a free product such as a newsletter, brochure, flyer, e-book, video, etc. Interested people can get the free product in exchange for providing an email address. The digital product gets emailed to someone who ‘opts in’ to receive it.
5. Over time, more people will subscribe to the free product, and you will build an email list. These are your biggest fans, and having email addresses lets you follow up with them with more valuable information to build trust and credibility.
6. Send emails to your list daily (or as often as possible).
7. Periodically, put your affiliate links in your emails for products your audience might be interested in. These people are most likely to buy products from you, so utilizing emails for this purpose is considered a great strategy.
